    17-07-2006: Les Devine's Story
    Les has lived in the Broadmeadows Neighbourhood Renewal area for the last nine and a half years. He and his wife Sharon have raised a family of six children and are involved at many levels in working for the local community. He has three children presently at Meadowbank Primary School with the last one going to the Early Learning Centre at the same school.     The day we came out here ... we came into Widford Street from the Glenroy end, and the road was only made so far ... Well, when I saw the house I just broke down and cried, because I thought I had come to the land of the never never, I really did. All I saw were these concrete houses, the sameness ... But ... because we had a baby, and my mother-in-law was minding him at the time; I accepted the house in order to have my baby back with me ... Going back all those years, it was the sameness. No shops, no transport, no footpaths, no front fence. All we got from the Commission was the house itself. [Read more]
